B ack to school season has always been a time of fresh beginnings, but this year feels especially momentous. Education in the UAE is entering a bold new chapter, marked by transformative announcements, ambitious growth forecasts, and a wave of innovation that will shape classrooms for years to come. The unified school calendar is already setting the tone, promising the longest winter break ever at four weeks, giving families and educators a chance to recharge and reconnect. In another landmark move, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has announced that Artificial Intelligence will become a mandatory subject in UAE schools, embedding future skills directly into the curriculum. The UAE education market outlook also points to a bright horizon. Forecasts show the sector is set to grow by AED 18.7 billion by 2029, with student enrolment across the region expected to rise from 14 million in 2024 to 15.5 million by 2029. Yet this growth poses a critical question. Can the supply of teachers keep pace with the rising demand? Balancing this education equation is one of the challenges our schools must face head on. Alongside this, students and families have much to celebrate. Exceptional IB and A Level results are being reported across the UAE, while the government has streamlined recognition of foreign degrees, ensuring smoother pathways for students pursuing higher education abroad. This issue also brings together some inspiring stories from our school communities. We feature exclusive interviews, including with Amy Falhi, Founding Principal of Dubai British School Mira, who shares her vision for leadership and learning. We profile James Monaghan, whose bold vision is bringing GEMS School of Research and Innovation to life as it prepares to welcome its very first student cohort. We also highlight new principals and new schools opening for 2025–2026, each adding their own unique voice to the country’s educational landscape. For teachers arriving in Dubai for the first time, we share practical advice on settling in, while our round-up of school updates keeps parents and students ahead of the curve. And because learning extends beyond the classroom, this issue includes special offers from Movenpick, Studio One Hotel, and Oli Oli. Families can also enjoy a summer of creativity and fun at Oli Oli museum, with more than 40 interactive exhibits designed to spark curiosity in every child. This is your complete guide to the new academic year, designed to keep you informed, inspired, and ready for the exciting changes ahead. Warm regards, Anwesha Sengupta Editor, Education UAE Magazine
