TRAVEL FAR 229

Coming from the UAE, it also felt like a real break. The cooler air, the green space, the change of pace, it gives you a chance to properly switch off. What stayed with me most, though, was the people. Everywhere we went felt welcoming. Nothing felt forced. Of course, the major cities are very touristy at times, but it all felt easy. Scotland isn’t about doing everything. It’s about having the space to enjoy where you are, and for us, that’s exactly what made it such a good family trip.

One of our favourite days was completely simple. We spent the day at Nairn beach, nothing fancy, just time together, and finished with fish and chips. It was one of those days that just worked without trying too hard. The Long Days Are a Gift If you go in the summer, the long days are something else. The light starts incredibly early and seems to go on forever, which is great with children because you never feel like you’re rushing to fit things in, but can be a bit of a nightmare for bedtime routines! In Scottish summer, daylight can last until 10pm or later. Brilliant for families during the day. Bring blackout blinds for the kids.
